Monaco GP: Red Bull qualifying quotes Saturday, May 25th 2013, 15:42 GMT


Sebastian Vettel - 3rd: "I was a bit annoyed with my flying lap in Q3; I think I maybe pushed a bit too hard here and there. The start of the lap wasn't bad, but also it wasn't great; with hindsight I should have gone for two flying laps at the start of Q3 and not one, but I decided for that. I thought the tyres would be good enough for the first lap. I have been struggling all weekend, but in the end it was tight. Pole was probably possible today, but we are third. I think with the Mercedes in front, it was expected that they would be strong. We have a good race car and should be able to do well from there tomorrow."

Mark Webber - 4th: "Yeah I'm pretty happy with that. It's very easy to be towards the back when you have a disruptive session with those conditions, but we managed to survive all the tricky sections and put together a reasonably tidy effort. You can always look at timings later and think you could have done things differently, but in the heat of the moment you make the decision as to what you think is right and overall it wasn't too bad. The conditions are changing and the tyres are tricky, so starting on the second row here is not bad. It's a long race and a lot of strategy can unfold, so we'll see what we can do from there."

Christian Horner, team principal: "A very strong team performance with both cars lining up on the second row of the grid in what was a very tight qualifying session. Sebastian put in a very quick lap at the beginning of Q3 and unfortunately didn't quite have enough to hold on to the pole, but nonetheless a great performance from him and from Mark who once again has done a great job in Monte Carlo."

(Renault) Thierry Salvi: "At Monaco, getting the engine response completely correct is absolutely crucial to lap time gain. The slow corners and short bursts of power between them require a very precise power delivery in the low rev range, but one of the main advantages of the RS27 is its ability to be mapped to deliver torque exactly when the driver needs it. This helped today and we ended up pretty much where we thought. Tomorrow's race will be difficult to predict, as overtaking is hard here, so no doubt the tyre wear will play yet another role in the results"

Sebastian Vettel - 2nd: "Overall I'm happy and pleased with the result, we know that it's very difficult to overtake here. Congratulations to Nico, he did a very good job and had a very controlled race; I think he had the pace and the tyres to respond whenever we tried to get a little bit closer to him. I had a fantastic start, but there was no room! I think I could have gone past both Mercedes, but there was no space and I had to lift. Then Mark came and it was very tight into the first corner. I was a bit surprised by the slow pace of the opening laps – usually you expect two silver arrows in front of you, but they were more like buses today going for a cruise on the first couple of laps. But, the strategy for them was clear and they did a very good job. It was a good strategy from our team to get past Lewis. It was hard with the restarts, but we can be happy with the result. It was a good achievement by the team; we seem to like this place. Congratulations to everyone and thanks to all our partners – two cars on the podium is very good."

Mark Webber – 3rd: "First of all congratulations to Nico, it's a very special place to win here and he had a seamless weekend; that's what you need to do here. Even though he started in the lead, you still have to pull it off so well done to him. For us, we knew we were a little bit against it starting on the second row, but I got an absolutely incredible start and it's sod's law that it's the shortest run into the first corner here. Seb and I had nowhere to go, so we were lifting while Nico and Lewis looked like they had tricky ones. We will save some of those starts for future reference! Then after that it was basically about saving the tyres and making the one-stop work for us. It was predictable that if the race was going to stack up, then the two-stop was not really an option as you could have come back into traffic. We had to go pretty long and all the drivers were nursing the tyres – it was nice to get Lewis on the stops."

Christian Horner, team principal: "Second and third with the least amount of time for both our cars in the pit lane today is a very positive team result. We managed to get both cars ahead during the pit stops and safety car period, in what turned out to be a relatively processional race due to everyone adopting a one-stop strategy. At Monaco you can never overtake, so it was all about conserving tyres and managing the pace until the end of the race. As we saw with Sebastian, the pace was there as he set the fastest lap, but today I think second and third was probably optimum from our grid positions."

(Renault) Thierry Salvi: "While we would have liked to get the win today, everyone is aware overtaking is difficult at Monte Carlo. The safety cars didn't provide much opportunity for creative strategy, so we can be happy with a double podium. It's the fourth consecutive year the Red Bull-Renault partnership has finished on the podium, so it is great to keep that record going."

Le Red Bull hanno ottenuto un risultato superiore alle aspettative: 2° e 3° in una gara in cui, senza safety car, non avrebbero fatto meglio di 3° e 4°.

 

Ho notato però che quando è entrata la safety car al giro 30 per l'incidente di Massa, Vettel andava al massimo sui due rettilinei della pista.

E' per questo che è riuscito a passare Hamilton.

Canadian GP qualifying quotes: Red Bull Saturday, June 8th 2013, 19:59 GMT


Sebastian Vettel - 1st: "It was very tricky today, especially as you never knew what the conditions were going to be like the next time you went out. It was intermediate tyres throughout, but it was extremely difficult to adapt as the conditions were constantly changing. In the last qualifying session we decided to have two runs; we thought the second would be quicker, as we had a new set of tyres for that, but it started to drizzle in the last sector, in particular in the chicane. I went straight there on one lap and on the second I had a mistake somewhere else, so it turned out that the first run was the important one. I'm happy the lap was good enough, as it was tight with Lewis. Congratulations to Valtteri, I think he did an excellent job putting the Williams on P3. For us, I am extremely happy with the result and looking forward to the race tomorrow. I think we had strong pace yesterday, so no matter what the conditions we should be in decent shape."

Mark Webber - 5th: "That was quite tricky for everyone. It's a bit of a mixed grid and I would have liked to have been a bit more comfortable than fifth, but in the end it's what we got. There's a long way to go tomorrow, so let's see how it unfolds. It was a good job by Bottas and it should be an interesting grand prix. Dry conditions tomorrow are nicer for everyone as it makes it a bit more predictable and straightforward, and visibility here isn't great here if it rains."

Christian Horner: "It's fantastic to get the pole in Montreal. It was a really difficult qualifying session and it's very easy for things to go wrong in a session like that. Just to get both cars in Q3 was a result, so to get pole with Sebastian and P5 with Mark on the grid for tomorrow's grand prix is a really positive starting position."

(Renault) Thierry Salvi: "A difficult session, with rain on and off, so congratulations to Sebastian and the team for getting it spot on. The circuit is one of the hardest on the engines, with the long straights combined with heavy braking zones, so starting from pole is a good feeling. We know it's a long race tomorrow and conditions will be very different from today but we'll do our best to help the team score its first win in Canada."

Dite che hanno migliorato davvero il consumo delle gomme o questa gara e' stato un caso?

dipende dalle piste, dalle temperature, dalle gomme, troppe variabili

 

in Bahrain per esempio non avevano sofferto, poi a Barcellona sì

 

c'è di buono, per loro, che le prossime gare a Silverstone e Nurburgring avranno presumibilmente temperature fresche

redbull tronky: morbida dentro (perchè magari parte l'alternatore o fonde il kers) ma dura fuori (dopo brasile 2012 e ieri spero che i bonus siano finiti :D )

Non credo che sia solo una questione di temperature: in Bahrain e in Malesia faceva veramente caldo, eppure non sono andati in crisi con le gomme.

 

Penso che sia anche una questione di adattamento al circuito e alla tipologia di curve che ci sono.

Ieri non era freddissimo, ma neppure caldo, ma rispetto alla Ferrari trovavano la prestazione praticamente da subito.

La Ferrari trovava il ritmo dopo 15/20 giri, quando ormai era troppo tardi.

La Lotus invece addirittura non ha mai mandato in temperatura le gomme e non ha trovato mai il ritmo.

 

Inoltre, potrebbe anche essere una questione di assetti: al sabato ha piovuto, Red Bull viaggia sempre alta al retrotreno e quindi potrebbe aver subìto meno dalle condizioni di setup.

Ferrari e Lotus, che viaggiano più basse da terra, non potevano scegliere quel setup in qualifica e son dovute andare in gara con altezze più alte, perdendo in prestazioni.

 

Inoltre, ho notato che la Red Bull pare competitivissima in trazione, specie nelle curve da 2^ e 3^ marcia, ma soffre di più nelle curve da appoggio, da 4^ e 5^ marcia.

Cina e Spagna sono piene di quelle curve, motivo per cui sono andate meglio Ferrari e Lotus.

 

Resta invece inspiegabile il motivo per cui siano andati male in Australia, pista che bene o male è simile a Montreal.

Forse una questione di assetti votati più al bagnato che all'asciutto che c'è stato poi in gara a Melbourne.

ma sì anche io la penso così, è un misto di variabili, ovviamente c'entrano le temperature ma sono legate alle mescole, tipo di curve, ecc

 

sono d'accordo che vada meglio sulle piste da trazione che su quelle coi curvoni (Sepang però?), a Silverstone infatti penso soffriranno un po' rispetto alla Ferrari



aggiungo che è evidente che la Rb soffra meno il consumo quando Vettel è davanti e può spingere liberamente, si è visto chiaramente sia in Bahrain che ieri

sono d'accordo che vada meglio sulle piste da trazione che su quelle coi curvoni (Sepang però?), a Silverstone infatti penso soffriranno un po' rispetto alla Ferrari

 

A Sepang ci sono alcune considerazioni da fare:

 

1) Il meteo: sabato ha piovuto, loro viaggiano sempre alti da terra e quindi non hanno avuto influenze la domenica.

Ferrari e Lotus invece sono state costrette ad alzarsi da terra più del solito e quindi possono avre perso competitività.

 

2) le curve: a Sepang ci sono tante curve da 2^ e 3^ (le prime due, la 4, il tornantino Berjaya, la curva Simoncelli, la penultima curva e l'ultimo tornante).

Le curve in appoggio sono solo 3: il curvone Genting (curve 5 e 6), la curva doppia Klia (7 e 8) e la curva 12/13 (quelle in discesa prima della penultima).

 

Poi a Sepang c'erano le gomme più dure, che probabilmente hanno aiutato la Red Bull.
