The King of Spa 637 Inviato 10 Agosto, 2010 Latvala drives his classic Escort to Finnish victory Ford?s Rally Finland winner Jari-Matti Latvala scored his second victory in a week when he won the Lahti Historic Rally on Saturday - but he missed out on a home hat-trick at the Helsinki Motorsport Weekend. The 26-year-old Latvala drove his Ford Escort Mk II to a two-minute win on Lahti-based event, despite suffering a gearbox problem before the start of the event. Latvala then headed further south for the Helsinki Motorsport Weekend, where he lost to former Formula 1 star Mika Salo in the semi-finals of the Race of Champions-style event. Salo went on to win in front the event outright, beating Harri Toivonen. ?It was a very good weekend,? said Latvala, who was partnered to his second consecutive Lahti win by his father?s co-driver Asko Sairanen. ?I really, really enjoyed my time in the Escort, but I have to admit it was a little bit stressful before the start. Having just come from a Focus World Rally Car, maybe I wasn?t being quite careful enough with the Escort and I broke the gearbox in the test on Monday. I worked on Tuesday to find the parts and the man who looks after my rally cars fixed it for me. ?But then it was recce Wednesday and Thursday, so suddenly it was quite a busy week. We got it sorted and the car was fantastic. Last year I won this event with three gears, after I suffered a problem with the gearbox then, but this time I had all five and it was perfect.? Latvala admitted the Helsinki event was interesting, driving a range of cars including a cross kart, a Fiesta R2 and some American-style race cars. ?There were a lot of good drivers there,? said Latvala. ?It was good, with some good competition, it was just a shame there weren?t a few more people.? Latvala wins again in Finland Condividi questo messaggio Link al post Condividi su altri siti
The King of Spa 637 Inviato 12 Agosto, 2010 (modificato) National rally to remember Richard Burns Richard Burns, the 2001 world rally champion, will be remembered by a national-level rally being held in his honour in Norfolk, UK, this weekend (August 14/15). The Richard Burns Memorial Rally, which was first run in 2008, is an annual event organised to raise funds for the Richard Burns Foundation and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. Using asphalt stages located in the grounds of the RAF Marham air base near the town of King’s Lynn, more than 100 crews will take part in an eclectic mix of machinery. Burns visited RAF Marham in 2000 where he was treated to a flight in a Tornado jet and met Sergeant Chris Daykin, one of several people instrumental in establishing the Richard Burns Memorial Rally following Burns’ death in 2005 of an astrocytoma, a type of malignant brain tumour. Two-time world champion Marcus Gronholm, who used to partner Burns in Peugeot’s world rally team, became a patron of the Richard Burns Foundation in February this year. He said: “It’s fantastic so many people will be doing the rally but also supporting the Richard Burns Foundation and the sport as a whole. Like everybody else, including Richard of course, I started off competing on national rallies, although at home in Finland rather than in Norfolk! “These events are vital for teaching future generations of drivers the skills they will need to compete at international level and they also provide so many people with a lot of enjoyment, while raising funds for some very important initiatives.” Robert Reid, Burns’ long-term co-driver, is a keen supporter of the Richard Burns Foundation and Richard Burns Memorial Rally. He took part in the inaugural event in September 2008 where he guided Markko Martin to a fitting victory in a Subaru Impreza. Richard’s father Alex was also in action that year, co-driving Gordon Jarvis in a Talbot Sunbeam Ti. He will return to compete on the event his season.
