Bruno Senna

Post raccomandati

Anzi. Piloti all'esordio lo hanno sistematicamente sopravanzato. Pertanto la tua domanda ? senza risposta perch? ? ovvio che Buemi ? li per altri meriti -> $

lo sapremo nel corso della stagione.

No, non lo sapremo.

Perch?

Direi quasi incredula.

Senna rues wrong place, wrong time

Bruno Senna has admitted that his hoped-for entry into Formula 1 in 2009 came unstuck largely as a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but he is adamant that it is 'not the end of the world' ? and he remains hopeful of getting another chance in twelve months' time.

For much of the winter, it was almost taken as read that the young Brazilian ? nephew of the late, great three-time F1 World Champion Ayrton Senna ? would be lining up on the starting grid in the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne at the end of March behind the wheel of one of the two ex-Honda (now Brawn GP) cars alongside Jenson Button.

That followed an encouraging maiden test outing in the top flight for the Brackley-based concern back in November, when the 25-year-old is understood to have impressed team principal Ross Brawn and other senior staff members with his pace and technical feedback.

Though there were no further tests as the months dragged on and there was still no indication of whether the team would make the season or not, Senna remained strongly linked to whatever did ultimately rise from the ashes. And yet, when Brawn GP materialised last week, all talk regarding the GP2 Series runner-up went quiet, an arranged meeting was called off and Rubens Barrichello's name re-entered the fray ? with, it would transpire, justification.

?At first it was a big disappointment,? Senna reflected, speaking exclusively to Crash.net Radio. ?Obviously it was something we thought we had a pretty good chance at, and I think we did, but it just turned out that things changed very quickly from the end of last year to now, and things are still changing a lot in Formula 1.

?We knew that Ross was quite busy with all the final preparations and last-minute arrangements for the team. They called us to cancel the meeting, and we didn't really hear from them officially in any way, but we just knew the way things were going and what the result would be.

?I think I did a really good job in the tests especially, and had I had any more opportunities to test, then I'm pretty certain I would have been able to secure the seat, but things just went in a way that I couldn't prove my capacity or my talent anymore. That's the way it is; the way the regulations are nowadays, it makes it very difficult for any drivers to go into Formula 1. It's the same for everybody.?

Confessing that he had never entirely shared the confidence of the constant paddock whispers suggesting he was virtually a shoe-in for the drive, Senna added that he both understands and respects Brawn's final decision ? even if he is equally sure that had he been given the opportunity, he would have far from let the team down.

?I wasn't as confident as the rumours obviously,? he underlined, ?because the rumours were a bit too optimistic and everything seemed to be fitting too perfectly! Obviously we had much more inside information that maintained a good reality check, so we knew that it wasn't as simple as the rumours were making it out to be.

"Regardless of there being new regulations or not, I'm very, very certain that I would have been able to sit down in the car, have a few days to learn all of its tricks and then make sure that the team moved forward. I've always been put in difficult situations in motor racing since I started; I've always had to jump stages and learn very, very quickly, and I have done that very successfully.

?I don't see any reason why I wouldn't be able to arrive here (in F1) and take very little time to learn the trade and get the team moving forward. It's not something that would overawe me for sure, but again, it's something that I needed a few days to convince Ross about.

?In that situation, it was very natural for him to choose the one that he knows very well and go with an experienced driver like Rubens ? to go for the safe bet when he had so little time to prepare for the racing. It's something I'm sure many other people would do as well.?

Turning his attentions forwards, the former British F3 front-runner admitted that he hoped his chance had not now passed. Acknowledging the scarcity of opportunities to break into F1, he also knows that he missed out more through bad luck than anything else ? through having been ready to make his debut when the sport simply wasn't ready to welcome new drivers.

Only S?bastien Buemi will graduate from GP2 this year, having secured the second berth at Scuderia Toro Rosso alongside namesake S?bastien Bourdais, and it is somewhat ironic that as he fought eventual champion Giorgio Pantano tooth-and-nail for the crown in the feeder category last season, Senna out-scored the Swiss ace 64 points to 50. Assuredly, his time will also come.

?I think things will start to get a bit more stable,? the S?o Paulo native concluded. ?In my opinion, this is the worst moment that motor racing is going to face for a long time. It just turns out that I came into it at the wrong time, if you look at it this way. It's difficult to be always in the right place at the right time when things change so much.

?It is a very difficult moment, and who can analyse all the variables and all the changes that are going to come, and make all the right decisions? For sure it's time to deliberate a little bit and get a good chance for the next opportunity. It's not the end of the world at all.?

Senna Joins Team Oreca Matmut at Le Mans Test

Bruno Senna will gain new experience today at the Paul Ricard Circuit when he accepts an invitation to drive a Le Mans prototype car for the first time. Hugues de Chaunac has extended the invitation for Bruno to test for Team Oreca Matmut as they continue their preparations for the Le Mans 24 Hour race on 13-14 June.

"I would like to thank Oreca and Mr de Chaunac for this opportunity. It will certainly give me an insight into an area of my profession I have not seen before. While I do not want to be distracted from my target of driving in F1, there are a number of opportunities that will certainly improve my performance when that time comes. This is one of them and I am looking forward to the challenge?, said Bruno Senna.

'A wicked shame' if F1 consigns Senna to DTM'

It would be 'a wicked shame' if Bruno Senna's assumed failure to secure the second seat at the soon-to-be re-named Honda outfit in Formula 1 this year means that he has missed his chance in the top flight ? that is the view of his former GP2 Series team boss Paul Jackson, as rumours intensify that the Brazilian is now DTM-bound instead.

Senna was understood to be as good as a shoe-in for the berth alongside Jenson Button at the embattled Brackley-based concern ? whose new name and ownership is expected to be unveiled imminently [see separate story ? click here] ? until it was revealed that major Brazilian oil company Petrobras was not willing to help bankroll his graduation.

That news has seemingly vaulted compatriot and 2008 incumbent Rubens Barrichello into pole position to retain his drive at the squad, with Senna ? last year's GP2 Series Vice-Champion ? admitting that he is now 'kind of resigned to leaving this project behind' and 'a little upset' at having been led on for so long, costing him any chance of a decent opportunity elsewhere in either F1 or GP2 [see separate story ? click here].

That, argues Jackson, is a crying shame ? and the iSport International team principal fears that Senna's window of opportunity, so rare for young drivers in F1 these days, may now have passed.

"The way their time frames have worked, getting closer and closer to the first race without any opportunity to test, they tend to err more towards the safe route of picking a driver who's got F1 experience, rather than taking a little bit of a chance with someone like Bruno," the Englishman explained in an interview with the Eastern Daily Press.

"He is really, really smart. He will get on top of all the problems, probably better than some of the experienced guys, because he will have an open mind. A lot of the experienced guys will be looking back at their experiences over previous years, which are not quite so relevant, so I think it would be not such a big risk to take him.

"We really do believe he's a talent, but for some reason a lot of people don't seem to take him quite so seriously. They think he's there because of his name, because he's got access to sponsors and whatever. For sure, that helps him, but it doesn't make you drive the car quickly. He is a real talent and it'll be a wicked shame if that doesn't get seen in F1.

"If you don't get that F1 drive, it's a very difficult judgement as to where you go to try and keep your career alive and keep in front of people. It's a hard one. I've heard rumours in recent days he could end up in DTM, the German series. Okay, you're keeping him racing, you're going to keep him fit and focussed and employed, but it's a wasted talent I think. The danger is if you're out of it for a year, people tend to forget and I'd just hate to see that happen."

iSport has already firmed up its GP2 line-up for 2009 ? comprising new pairing Giedo van der Garde and Diego Nunes ? and Jackson has spoken enthusiastically of both, but he did hint that the door to a Senna return may not be entirely closed.

"All things are possible I suppose," he conceded, "but it's hard for him because he's got to a certain stage where he really does need to progress and prove himself in Formula 1. I have to say it's disappointing to see the lack of testing and opportunities for young drivers coming through.

"That's going to make it even harder for the young guys to break into F1, which is a shame because there needs to be some new blood from time to time and some of these real talents need an opportunity."

The DTM link, meanwhile, comes from comments made by Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Vice-President Norbert Haug, who has revealed that discussions are in place with the nephew of the late, great three-time F1 World Champion Ayrton Senna regarding a potential opening this year. The 25-year-old has hinted in an interview with Sport Bild that he intends 'to remain as close as possible to a manufacturer that is also represented in Formula 1'.

"There are talks but no decision," Haug told German news agency SID. "The DTM starts a month later this year (17 May), so we have four extra weeks to finalise our driver arrangements.

"It would be of course good to have Senna in the DTM, but it is still pure speculation if this will indeed happen. It is clear that even the best name does not help if speed is not there ? but Bruno has already proved in Formula 3, GP2 and in his Formula 1 tests that he does have the speed."

Should Senna indeed make the switch to the pan-European tin-top series, he would retain a link to F1 as Mercedes are widely expected to power the new Honda team with whom he had, until only a matter of days ago, believed he would be making his grand prix debut.
