Ah ecco, la spiegazione c'era.

 

Effettivamente non mi ha mai impressionato in GP2, un pilota di dubbio livello.

Malaysian GP qualifying quotes: Marussia Saturday, March 23rd 2013, 10:41 GMT

 

 

Jules Bianchi - 19th: "I am obviously thrilled with my qualifying lap today, but seeing how close we were to Q2 - just 0.5s - only left me wanting more. It has not been an easy time in practice, as we seem to have been struggling quite a lot with the tyre degradation. In the break we worked to put all of that together into a single lap for this afternoon and it all came good in the end, especially with the weather, which stayed dry for us. I am not sure we can expect the same dry conditions tomorrow - we will see. I do feel we can have a very interesting - and maybe exciting - race and show some more progress from where we were in Melbourne. My thanks for the Team because it has been difficult to progress the car since yesterday, but to do so in this heat and humidity is very tough. I am not sure it will be any easier tomorrow but I hope we can bring home another good result for everyone as some reward."

 

Max Chilton - 21st: "Today has been a tough day for us and unfortunately it didn't get any better for qualifying. We've been dealing with some significant tyre wear issues all weekend and these have hampered our progress quite a bit. This left me rather on the back foot going into qualifying and although the steps I was making to play catch up were satisfying, they were always going to be a step behind our true pace. It's disappointing because had we not suffered quite as much, the performance is obviously in the car and there to be taken advantage of. That's today done and dusted though and my thoughts now turn to tomorrow. I'm pretty confident that if we can get the Caterham off the line we can get into the right position and then start making an impression on the midfielders."

 

John Booth, Team Principal: "It was pleasing to get a dry qualifying session today to afford our two new drivers this experience after the difficulties of a wet session in Melbourne. The dry conditions also gave us the first true barometer of pace that we've been waiting for since pre-season testing and we have to be pleased with how things have shaken out in respect of where we are relative to the cars ahead. The morning session wasn't without its issues for Max, so unfortunately as a team we didn't prepare him in the best way for qualifying and this has undoubtedly compromised him today. However, as he demonstrated back in Melbourne, he can surely have a good race tomorrow and fight his way back up to a more representative position in the field. Jules has excelled himself today and worked well with his engineers to extract the maximum performance from the car. The good news is he came back still feeling a little disappointed in his own lap, which shows there is still more to come from him and the package in general. We look forward to what we feel sure will be an eventful race tomorrow. As today's more sustained dry window has shown, you can never predict anything in Sepang, but what we do have some confidence in after today is our ability to continue reeling in the midfield pack."

Malaysian GP race quotes: Marussia Sunday, March 24th 2013, 15:31 GMT

 

 

Jules Bianchi - 13th: "Obviously I'm delighted to finish 13th today, after 15th in my first race last weekend. I hope this is a trend we can continue! It was not an easy day though as we made life more difficult with a not so good start and opening lap and this really hurt the first part of my race. The lap time was really coming towards the end of the first stint but I was stuck behind the Caterham and unable to do much with it. After 18 laps or so I was able to get back into position and from then on I was very happy with my progress. It was nice to have held off Maldonado and to maintain the gap for so long. This shows we have the car to fight with them in the future. There are some things to learn from and improve after today and the weekend generally, but we have also made more progress already since Melbourne and we need to keep pushing. My thanks to the team for a lot of hard work and more to come between now and China."

 

Max Chilton - 16th: "I'm slightly disappointed with today because it seemed so many things were against us. First, the start didn't work well and I lost a lot of time on the opening lap. That setback and being stuck behind the Caterhams really defined my race, which is tough to take because you know instinctively that the blue flag period is going to come much sooner in the race. The car performance is there and so is my pace, but there's some work to do to bring all of that together and maximise every part of the race, including how we manage the blue flag phase. I'm sure that focus will ensure we can come back stronger in China. A good job by the Team this weekend as it has not been an easy time."

 

John Booth, Team Principal: "As is typically the case, the Malaysia Grand Prix delivered its unique mix of challenges for us to contend with today. The shower we had before the pitlane opened certainly produced some tricky conditions on the way to the grid and there were a few nervewracking moments once we got there in terms of tyre decision, particularly as both drivers had been aquaplaning in Turn 3. We didn't enjoy the best of starts and opening laps, however Jules did a good job to stay with the Caterham ahead. Once we had moved to dry tyres we were unfortunately stuck again behind Van Der Garde, however some good strategy from the engineers and pitstops from the mechanics allowed him to break free with effect from the second stint and make better progress whilst looking to the gap to the cars in front, which had been compounded by being held up for so long. For the rest of the race we were looking like we were going to enjoy a good battle with Maldonado until he unfortunately retired, which left Jules in a free air gap to endure a lonely stint. He did a great job once again and a 13th place is most welcome at this stage of the season. Max unfortunately came out worst on the opening lap and also had to queue in the first pitstop, which lost him time. At various times he showed he had the pace to beat both Caterhams but unfortunately he hit the blue flags earlier and then at the end he was held up by Ricciardo a lap ahead and lapping slowly in the Toro Rosso. Once again we can be happy with the progress we are making however whilst the midfield is still in striking distance it calls for a big push over the next three weeks with the development of the car. Realistically, we know we need a few more tenths to be able to really race with them."

Alla seconda gara in carriera, Bianchi ha già eguagliato il miglior risultato della squadra (13° posto a Singapore 2012) nei 3 anni precedenti di attività.

Marussia: Ferrari o Mercedes i V6 Turbo per il 2014

 

29 marzo 2013 – La Marussia divisa tra i motori Ferrari e Mercedes per il 2014. Esperienza al capolinea dunque per la Cosworth che non produrrà un V6 per la F1.

 

Il team Marussia di F1 sta valutando, come gli altri team clienti, a che motoristi affidarsi a partire dalla prossima stagione. Dal 2014 infatti il regolamento tecnico prevede l’introduzione dei motori V6 turbo da 1600 cc. Non si tratterà però di una semplice fornitura di propulsori, ma l’ottica delle squadre è quella di accaparrarsi il fornitore con il miglior knowhow sulle nuove specifiche dettate dal regolamento. Il team Force India ha già annunciato di aver scelto il marchio della Stella, mentre la Toro Rosso (ora motorizzata Ferrari) starebbe trattando con Renault.

 

Andy Webb, amministratore delegato del team Marussia, ha chiarito come la squadra sia intenzionata ad orientarsi esclusivamente verso i marchi Ferrari e Mercedes per l’adozione dei nuovi V6, in luogo dei Cosworth attualmente in uso che così uscirà dal grande circus.

 

“E’ ovvio che con l’uscita della Cosworth valuteremo unicamente le proposte di Ferrari e Mercedes – ha esordito il dirigente – abbiamo trattative in corso con entrambi. I costi saranno maggiori dei motori attualmente in uso e proprio per questo vogliamo essere certi di scegliere il miglior fornitore a parità di rendimento.“

 

Le trattative dovrebbero chiudersi entro poche settimane. E’ chiaro che l’approdo di Jules Bianchi, pilota del Ferrari driver Academy, potrebbe influire in merito, ma il team inglese aveva fin da subito smentito clausole in merito sul contratto stipulato con il francese alla vigilia dell’avvio della stagione 2013.

Molto probabile che possano passare ai motori Ferrari, ma mi chiedo sinceramente sa abbiano davvero le risorse economiche per poterseli permettere e per pagarli regolarmente.

Chinese GP qualifying quotes: Marussia Saturday, April 13th 2013, 08:15 GMT

 

 

Jules Bianchi - 19th: "I am happy with where we ended up on the grid for tomorrow's race, but I am a little disappointed with my lap to be honest. I made a small mistake which cost me lap time and there was certainly more to come. I think we have struggled a little more today perhaps, but I have confidence in our race pace and so I am looking forward to tomorrow's race. It will be key to get a good start and ensure the cars behind us stay behind us, then I am sure we can continue our trend of getting closer to the cars in front and hopefully feel the full benefit of our upgrades. I think it could be an interesting race generally because of the tyres and the track conditions, and I hope we will be able to take advantage of some circumstances which might work in our favour."

 

Max Chilton - 20th: "It would be easy to focus on the negatives from today, but given the challenges we've faced on my side of the garage so far this weekend I'm more encouraged by what we 'have' achieved when you consider how little running we've had. The target was to stay the right side of the Caterhams, which I did, despite only having the one run of three laps. Although it has been frustrating, at least this means that we'll start ahead of them on the grid tomorrow and hopefully we'll be able to make use of our strong race pace to stay there. Fingers crossed we'll get a clear run at the race, which I'm looking forward to."

 

John Booth, Team Principal: "Today has certainly been far from the perfect day for our Team, although on one hand it is interesting that we use different benchmarks to reach that conclusion than might have been the case last year. With both cars we are disappointed with our qualifying. There was certainly more time to come from Jules' lap, but the balance wasn't quite there on his second run. With Max, I'm disappointed to say that we experienced another issue, which unfortunately prevented him from starting his second qualifying run. We are busy analysing the data and parts on the car to fully understand the problem and we will do everything possible to make sure his car is in good order for tomorrow's race. Overall, I suppose we can be happy that we are in the positions we need to be in for the start of the race, however we can't help feeling that we missed out on quite a bit of potential today. We hope for better things tomorrow."

Bravi bianchi e pic, mi sembrano decisamente più bravi di vdg e chilton, oggi già doppiati dopo poco più di metà gara, mentre gli altri 2 sono stati doppiati solo a fine gara.

Chilton si ? preso pi? di mezzo minuto da Bianchi, addirittura Van der Garde un minuto da Pic. Negli ultimi giri, il francese gli dava un secondo e mezzo su gomme che avevano il doppio dei giri.

Sicuramente nelle retrovie il pilota che spicca di più è Bianchi,che ha letteralmente surclassato Chilton.Ma anche Pic si è comportato molto bene.

Chinese GP race quotes: Marussia Sunday, April 14th 2013, 10:49 GMT

 

 

Jules Bianchi - 15th: "I am very happy to finish in 15th place today, but it was a tough race and to be honest I was happy to see the chequered flag after quite a difficult final stint holding onto the tyres. I got a good start and held position for quite a while before Pic was able to get ahead when we ran a slightly longer first stint. I spent the next two stints making up the time before retaking track position at the third round of pitstops. After that I was running with Maldonado and it was encouraging that I was able to maintain the gap to him for quite some time. Towards the end of the race though I had to focus on the tyre management more while ensuring that I kept the gap to Pic behind me. Those final laps seemed to last for an eternity but we got the right result in the end. Overall it was an enjoyable race - certainly my most challenging yet - and I think we have all learned even more about the tyres today. I think we have made another good step and it will be important to maintain this in Bahrain before we can then switch focus to what we will bring for Europe."

 

Max Chilton - 17th: "Again, I think we have good reason to focus on the positives today as the race went well for me and the car felt good. I'm pleased that we end our time in China on a stronger note after a few challenges along the way. I didn't get the best start but things improved through the race and that was reflected in my lap time relative to Van Der Garde. So looking at what has been a good race and also the signs from Free Practice earlier in the weekend, it's all starting to come together I think. Importantly, we brought home another good combined result for the Team and demonstrated that we can understand and respond to issues quickly to achieve the right outcome. I hope that we will have an easier time of it in Bahrain so I can make another positive start to the weekend and then have the opportunity to maintain that momentum."

 

John Booth, Team Principal: "We predicted a challenging race today and it certainly did keep the engineers on their toes and the drivers very keenly focused on what they needed to do to look after the tyres. Both Jules and Max did a great job to keep their heads down and drive very strong races, putting up a good fight with the cars around them when they needed to, whilst also keeping one eye on the big picture to ensure the right outcome. In the early part of the race we had to change our strategy slightly by extending our first stint and this allowed Caterham to get ahead when they stopped before us, but we made up that time over the course of the race and regained position. Overall, another good result for the Team and our third two car finish in as many races. The weekend has not been without its difficulties, particularly for Max, but all credit to him for maintaining his characteristically mature and positive demeanour throughout to help us overcome those problems and get ourselves back on track. A short gap before we do it all over again in Bahrain in just seven days' time, when I hope we will achieve an equally positive outcome but with a little less pain along the way."

Bahrain GP: Marussia qualifying quotes Saturday, April 20th 2013, 16:42 GMT

 

 

Jules Bianchi - 20th: "After a positive start to the season, I think it has perhaps been a little frustrating for all of us that we have hit upon a circuit that is not so well-suited to our car. This happens - up and down the pitlane - but we have done a good job to stay focused and do what we can to make the best of it here. The balance problems we experienced yesterday were quite pronounced and gave us a tough start, but I think the direction we have taken to resolve them is a good one. Overall we have faith in our race pace and strategy and we will see tomorrow whether or not this was destined to be our race."

 

Max Chilton - 22nd: "I'm much more comfortable heading into the race than today's timesheet might suggest to be honest. After a good day yesterday we had the KERS water pump problem this morning and I lost half of the free practice three session. Although that wasn't the best preparation for qualifying, with the running I did get I could see that the changes we made since yesterday are positive and we have made progress in the right direction. Things were going well in qualifying but unfortunately I locked up into Turn 11 and looking at the data I easily lost three to four tenths there. So, again, it's a question of looking beyond the timesheets at where we really stand for the race tomorrow and staying focused. We're playing the long game here in Bahrain this weekend, so if I can get the right side of van der Garde at the start I think we can show more of the progress we have made behind the scenes."

 

John Booth, team principal: "The build-up to the race has not been entirely straightforward again, but we're optimistic that, as was the case in China last weekend, we will experience a much better Sunday. There is no denying that this track has not favoured our car so well, but behind the scenes we've actually made good progress to overcome the balance issues which have been our main concern. A KERS water pump problem on Max's car created another disappointing setback for him, so all credit to him for recovering so well in qualifying. He was disappointed with a small mistake on his second quick lap but looking beyond that he did the best job possible under the circumstances today and should be proud of the way he has responded to the challenges we've presented him with. Jules has also done his customary solid job and I think we can look forward to strong performances from both of them tomorrow.

 

"We now have a better understanding of the problem we experienced in the garage today with Jules' car. This morning, a small amount of fuel was spilt due to an issue with the fuel connector. We examined all the components and made some changes ahead of qualifying, but unfortunately there was a further small fuel spillage this afternoon at the end of the session. On both occasions, at no point did the fuel ignite. The car crew were quick to respond with extinguishers as a precautionary measure, entirely in accordance with our procedures, and this served to make the situation appear rather more dramatic than it was. Having said that, getting to the root of the issue has been our highest priority, and we are now confident that the measures we have taken will prevent a re-occurrence."

Bahrain GP: Marussia race quotes Sunday, April 21st 2013, 18:45 GMT

 

 

Jules Bianchi - 19th: "A really difficult race for us today and a tough weekend all round to be honest. I was hoping that things might improve for the race, but we really struggled with the tyres. On my fourth stint the plan was to go to the end but we had to pit again. From there it was just about making it to the finish and holding position with the cars around me. There isn't much more to say about here; it was not destined to be our race and we are at the stage where we need to implement the next round of upgrades, which of course are coming right when we need them for Barcelona. My thanks to the pit crew today for a busy day of pit stops and for keeping their spirits through the weekend."

 

Max Chilton - 20th: "Despite a difficult weekend for us here, there were some encouraging signs in the race today. I got a really good start, which I was very pleased with, and this meant that we were able to leapfrog both of the Caterhams for a while. Unfortunately we struggled on the tyres and it wasn't long into each stint before we hit that window again. I'm pleased that I have demonstrated that I drove to the pace of the car today and although we weren't in a position to race who we want to be, I did at least have a good battle with my team-mate."

 

John Booth, team principal: "A difficult weekend continued into the race unfortunately. Our performance today was defined by the fact that this track just hasn't played to the strengths of our car and at the same time as this has hurt us, the cars around us have made their own progress. It was also a busy race in the pits today, given the higher tyre degradation that we experienced. All in all, I believe we got the most out of the car today, but clearly we need a good step for Barcelona to maintain our objective of continuous improvement throughout the year. We head back to the UK now for a busy few weeks in the factory preparing our upgrades for the start of the European season, whilst analysing what we've learned at the last two races. I'm sure that the result of this work will be a much-improved car for the next race and we can get back to competing where we want to be."

Spanish GP: Marussia qualifying quotes Saturday, May 11th 2013, 15:53 GMT

 

 

Jules Bianchi - 20th: "We had a good Free Practice 3 session this morning and the changes we had made seemed to move us on quite a bit from yesterday. We found more grip but the car is still not well-balanced and this is the most I could get from it today. The balance was quite variable in the first and last sector on different laps and I'm still not happy in the high-speed corners. We need to go through the data and understand what I can do in the race tomorrow to manage these situations. We need a good start to get ahead of Van der Garde but I think we will see some improvement tomorrow in terms of our race pace."

 

Max Chilton - 21st: "We're not there yet with the balance of the car but I am pleased with the progress we have made since yesterday. My first lap in particular was strong and I'm definitely feeling the benefit of not having lost track time this weekend. I feel like I've been able to demonstrate more of my progress. I'm really looking forward to the race now."

 

John Booth, team principal: "We were pleased that the analysis we did overnight on our upgrade package showed that we continue to enjoy good correlation with our development tools. The upgrades we have for this race have certainly brought more performance to the car and last night the feeling was that if we'd had more time to work on the developments during FP1 and FP2 there would be more to come. We haven't really found a great balance on the car yet, however we did have a very positive FP3 session where we made good improvements to the car. Jules was unable to get a good lap together in qualifying due to a difficult balance and Max had to be a bit more aggressive on his out lap due to traffic to find clean air. So neither driver quite got the lap they wanted today but it's good to have them so close to each other and I think we can look forward to a good race tomorrow."

Bel confronto tra Caterham e Marussia, che mi sembrano molto vicine.

 

Entrambe sono scese sotto il tempo di 1:25, finalmente stanno per diventare anche loro delle vere F1 e non soltanto delle GP2 ricarrozzate.

Spanish GP: Marussia race quotes Sunday, May 12th 2013, 16:30 GMT

 

 

Jules Bianchi - 18th: "I feel like I drove a really hard race today but there is not so much to show for it. I am obviously pleased to have had three strong middle stints but the damage was done in the opening few laps when I had to pit for a new nose. I think we recovered well from this and had we not had the extra stop we could have been fighting with Bottas today. Our lap time was much faster than theirs and I managed to get the gap down to eight seconds in the final stint, but pushing so hard stretched the tyres too much and I had to back off to just focus on getting the car home. Another two-car finish is important to us. It was a race that demanded all my concentration and I certainly put all of the tyre management experience I have gained in the first four races to good use today, so it was quite an exhausting day but one which also had some positive highlights. I will focus on these and hope for better things in my home race in Monaco in two weeks' time."

 

Max Chilton - 19th: "It was disappointing to have such a problematic start to the race and then we had the pit stop issue, which was a further setback. What is encouraging is my lap time in free air today, which I'm pretty pleased with, and it's good to be able to demonstrate more of my outright pace than I've been able to over the past few races. If we can get on top of some of these problems we can really start to come into our own a bit more. The pace is there so we should be able to get back to closing the gap to the midfield. Next it's one of my favourite races and I'll be doing everything I can to prepare for my first time out in a Formula 1 car there. Hopefully we can enjoy a better reward for our efforts."

 

John Booth, Team Principal: "We leave the Circuit de Catalunya with mixed feelings about our Spanish Grand Prix weekend. On the one hand we have made clear progress with our development step for this race, not only coming into the weekend on Friday but also in the way we have optimised it session by session. We were hoping for better things in the race but we suffered a few setbacks with Jules and Max which overshadowed what should be the key take-out from today, which is our relative pace versus the cars around us. Both drivers were doing a good job of demonstrating that and having been forced to stop four times versus the planned three, and therefore having to complete the final stint on a scrubbed Hard tyre, Jules' recovery was particularly impressive. With the benefit of a new tyre he would have been able to keep pushing in the final stint and it could have been a different result today. The pace development has come as the result of some very hard work back in Banbury and we need to maintain the momentum into Monaco now, where we will have some further, albeit more minor, upgrades."
