Australia Friday quotes: Toro Rosso Friday, March 15th 2013, 08:00 GMT

Daniel Ricciardo - 18th/14th: "In FP1 it was soon clear that in terms of balance and set-up we were not where we wanted to be so we made some changes and they helped. I definitely feel we made progress from morning to afternoon, but not enough, so there is more to do overnight to find more pace. It's nice to be racing at home in Australia again, which is an added incentive to work really hard to get the car to go quicker and give the fans something to cheer about on Sunday."

Jean-Eric Vergne 17th/17th: "It's really nice to be back on track for the first Grand Prix, the first day of practice and I'm happy to be back in the car. The most obvious change from winter testing has been the higher temperatures and this meant the tyres have worked much better today than they did in Spain. We have quite a bit of work to do to get closer to those ahead and I feel we currently lack some speed. However, our long runs looked pretty good and the balance of the car was okay."

Laurent Mekies (Head of Vehicle Performance): "A busy day for everyone, finally being here in Melbourne after a series of cold and wet winter tests. This meant it was a case of discovering how our car behaves in these conditions for the first time. This was also the first day of running for us on the Supersoft tyres. We tried to complete as many laps as possible, splitting the tyre investigation for the race between the two drivers. We have a lot to do tonight to adapt the car to these new conditions, trying to ensure we get the car in the best possible performance window. As expected, the competition is very tight in our part of the grid. Our work is therefore aimed not only at finding the best possible set-up for the rest of the weekend, but also to start moving it forward for the season. In Melbourne, we can usually expect the unexpected and there is a chance of a wet qualifying, while the race here always throws up some surprises. So we must ensure we are ready for whatever circumstances we encounter."

Australian GP race quotes: Toro Rosso Sunday, March 17th 2013, 08:29 GMT

Jean-Eric Vergne - 12th: "It was a hot start, I was pushed to the outside and I ended up going through a gravel trap at one point. After that, the first stint on the Option was only average, but the last two sections on the Prime tyre were very good and competitive and I was even in the points for a couple of corners right at the end, but as I passed Grosjean I flat-spotted my two front tyres and overshot my braking point when I tried to chase Button. Overall, I think the weekend showed we have a good car with which we ought to be able to go hunting for points in every race. So I'm disappointed at not scoring here, but my hopes for the coming races are now higher than when we first started this weekend. I think that fundamentally, we have a good car."

Daniel Ricciardo - DNF: "In the end I had to retire with a problem linked to the exhaust. I reported back to the pit wall that I could hear strange noises and I tried to fix it by changing a few functions, but it was not to be. At the start of the race, I struggled to find grip and it felt like I was driving on ice, as it took a very long time to warm up the tyres. But afterwards, after about ten laps, I got up to speed and my lap times were not too bad, but by then I had lost too much time in the early stages. I think we have more homework to do when it comes to the tyres. Not the ending I wanted for the first Grand Prix of the season, especially here in my home race."

Franz Tost: "To look at the positive aspects of this opening Grand Prix first, our car proved to be very competitive in the wet, both our drivers performed well from Friday onwards and, by Sunday afternoon, we had also managed to improve the pace of the STR8 in the dry. However, on the negative side, we missed an opportunity to qualify better this morning, when we did not choose the best tyre strategy and this afternoon, Daniel struggled to find any grip in the early stages and was then forced to retire with a reliability problem. From 13th on the grid, Jean-Eric drove hard to try and get in the points, but was unable to do so. This performance does not reflect our true potential and we must do better, starting in a few days' time in Sepang."

Malaysian GP qualifying quotes: Toro Rosso Saturday, March 23rd 2013, 09:48 GMT

Daniel Ricciardo - 13th: "Coming into qualifying today, if I'd been told I could sign on the dotted line for thirteenth, I'd have taken it. It's a decent result and we haven't been that far up the time sheets all weekend in practice. Looking at it that way, thirteenth is quite good, but in Q1, we were quite competitive and only one hundredth of a second from the top ten. With the rain coming, maybe we missed an opportunity to do better. We have improved but I still want more. Tomorrow, I plan to move up the order in what could be an unpredictable race. I really want to be in the top ten and get some points on the board early in the season."

Jean-Eric Vergne - 16th: "I don't know how much better I could have done, but it's never nice to be out at the end of Q1. I was held up in the final sector by another car and lost between four and five tenths and that cost me the chance of getting to Q2. If we want to find positives, then at least I have saved a set of new tyres for the race, which could be important as this track is very hard on tyres. Being behind my team-mate? It means nothing today and the important thing is to be in front tomorrow! As usual, I am still being optimistic about tomorrow and hope to go after some points. Anything can happen in this race and in free practice we saw we had a good pace on a long run, which is encouraging."

James Key (Technical Director): "We knew the balance of the car would be very different to Melbourne and we adjusted the car accordingly for Friday, but the difference in car balance and tyre behaviour was greater than we had expected. Overnight, we wanted to take another step for this morning, but on both cars it was actually a step too far and the softer tyres did not work well and the balance was not optimum. So we went back a bit for qualifying, making some additional changes. This did the trick, so we expected Q1 to be fine for us. Unfortunately, Jean-Eric encountered traffic and did not get a clean lap, which was a shame as both drivers have been evenly matched, so he looked likely to get through to Q2. Daniel did exactly what was required to secure a good Q2 position, especially considering how tight it is in the midfield. The changes we made for qualifying worked well and, from a race point of view, those changes will also be suitable for the race."

Malaysian GP race quotes: Toro Rosso Sunday, March 24th 2013, 12:23 GMT

Jean-Eric Vergne - 10th: "It's good to finish in the points, but it's a shame that a mistake in the pits cost us so much, as I could have done something better. So, overall I feel rather frustrated. But I'll take the point gladly.

"After these first two races, we now have a short break before we go racing again and we must use that time to take a close look at how we performed and where we can do better, because there is certainly a lot of room for improvement, as both these two races have been missed opportunities.

"On the positive side, again today, once we got over our problems I had a good race pace and managed to make up a lot of places."

Daniel Ricciardo - 18th: "I compromised my race even before the start when the conditions were very slippery, aquaplaning off at Turn 3. I managed to keep going, but I went across the gravel quite fast and damaged the floor. That probably played a part in my problem at the end.

"I got a reasonable start and made up a few places and was pretty pleased with the first couple of laps. But I did not have the pace to keep the Lotuses behind me and stay in the top 10, even though the switch to dry tyres was well timed.

"Like I said, I think the damage on that opening lap affected my overall performance all race long."

Franz Tost – team principal: "An eventful race with the field starting on Intermediates. We timed our switch to slicks well on both cars and Daniel made up a few positions straight away.

"The midfield battle was very fierce and we had one car at the front, Daniel, and one at the back of this group, Jev. Unfortunately, we had a poor release from Jev's pitstop and he collided with a Caterham, which cost us a lot of time, as we had to pull him back for a new nose. The Stewards have fined us for a dangerous release from a pitstop and we agree with their decision.

"After that, Jev did a good job to fight back and get into the points ahead of that midfield group, which is quite an achievement on a dry track. The fact our race pace was satisfactory was the most positive point of the race.

"In Daniel's case, he went off on the lap to the grid and raced with a damaged floor, so taking that into account and how it affected his car, his performance in those circumstances was also positive.

"Unfortunately, we had an exhaust issue on his car in the closing laps and decided it was best to retire him in the pits. In general, our race performance was good, but we are too slow in Qualifying. We have to find a way of improving on Saturday afternoons, so that we give ourselves a better start on Sundays."

Toro Rosso, Key: “Aggiornamenti sostanziali a Barcellona”

Chinese GP qualifying quotes: Toro Rosso Saturday, April 13th 2013, 07:48 GMT

Daniel Ricciardo - 7th: "It's nice to be in Q3. It's the first time since Bahrain last year that I've made it to the top ten, so that's nearly a whole year. I am definitely looking forward to having a strong race tomorrow and will give it all I've got to make the most of this seventh place on the grid. I think it will be an exciting race and today, you could see that most of us waited until the last moments in Q3 to go out, with everyone thinking about saving tyres for tomorrow, as the Options were having a hard time on a long run on Friday. This result will boost everyone's spirits, and mine as well and I really can't wait for the lights to go out tomorrow! The guys have been working so hard back at the factory and they've made the car quicker, so well done to everyone."

Jean-Eric Vergne - 16th: "That was disappointing, because I've been on the pace since Friday, something didn't feel quite right on the car this afternoon. However, I am sure we can sort things out for tomorrow and when you see where my team-mate qualified then that has to be a positive sign for tomorrow, because the car is clearly working well. There will be plenty of opportunities to do something from here in the race. The tyre situation is quite complicated and we will have to see how to make the most of them, because the right strategy will be the biggest factor tomorrow afternoon. What we can say is that the car has definitely improved compared to the first two races."

James Key (Technical Director): "We brought some relatively subtle changes here that improved on the hardware we had for the first two races which we hoped would allow us to make a good step forward and overall, they have. We didn't expect to be significantly better here, as this track has traditionally been difficult for us. However, all weekend our performance has been reasonable and we had a smoother time from Friday to Saturday than at the previous races and the car is responding well to changes. Daniel put in a fantastic effort, doing everything right and finding a huge amount of time with each new tyre set. It was a well controlled drive and he thoroughly deserves to have got to Q3 and a seventh place on the grid. It's also great news for the team, as we have all been working very hard at the track and the factory, because we knew we could do better than in the first two races. It was really unfortunate for Jev, who up until this afternoon was on the same pace as his team-mate. However, we've come from sixteenth on the grid to score points on Sunday, so we can remain optimistic. Inevitably with the spread between our cars on the grid, we will be looking at two different strategies for tomorrow. The Option tyre is something of an unknown, while Friday showed that the Prime is lasting quite well."

ingegnere Button: "Then us in P7, Ricciardo P8, ..."

Button (stupito): "Ricciardo?? wooow !!"

Chinese GP race quotes: Toro Rosso Sunday, April 14th 2013, 10:16 GMT

Daniel Ricciardo - 7th: "I am really pleased to score my first points of the season and to confirm the qualifying performance. After yesterday afternoon I kept calm, knowing the real work would begin today. The last time I qualified this well was sixth in Bahrain last year and then I failed to score, so today, I really wanted to show people what I could do, so it's great for me to have had a great race but it's especially good for the team, who have worked so hard for this. Of course, the early pit stop to change the nose affected our plans and towards the end, Massa's Ferrari was looking bigger and bigger ahead of me! So yes, maybe I could have done even better, but for now I'll settle for this seventh place. From the start of the season, we have had many changes in terms of personnel and it takes a while for that to gel and this weekend, it felt like everything clicked into place, after the first two race weekends were a bit up and down, but now I expect us to continue getting stronger from here on."

Jean-Eric Vergne - 12th: "I think Mark could not have got through from where he tried and I'm not even sure if he was trying to pass me. Certainly I didn't even know he was there. Unfortunately, the impact put me into a spin and the incident damaged my floor. From then I lost a lot of downforce. It was not a good race from then on, having lost a lot of time and having to drive a damaged car. It's not been a good weekend, as I did not have a smooth time of it from the start. However, as I said yesterday, the pace of the car has improved in the break since Malaysia, as could be seen from what Daniel was able to do today. Therefore I am now looking forward to Bahrain with a positive outlook."

Franz Tost: "It was a very interesting race which saw Daniel Ricciardo start from seventh and take the chequered flag in the same position. This encouraging result was built on his good performance in yesterday's qualifying. Unfortunately, on lap 4, Daniel was involved in a collision with Rosberg and he had to pit earlier than planned as there was damage to the left front wing end plate. The pit crew did a good job, changing the nose and tyres in 7.2 seconds, which is quite quick. From then on, he produced a very good race, with plenty of overtaking manoeuvres. It was unfortunate that Jean-Eric Vergne was involved in an early collision with Webber's Red Bull, especially as it's a particular shame when this happens within the Red Bull "family." All weekend long, the car performed well, with the upgrades we brought here delivering the results we had hoped for and the team also did a good job. Today's points mean we move up to seventh in the Constructors' classification, 7 points behind the sixth placed team. Now there are just a few days until we race again in Bahrain and the plan is to keep this momentum going so that we can bring home more points before starting the European part of the season."
