Ricciardo gets STR Friday practice role

 

Daniel Ricciardo will drive for Toro Rosso in Friday practice sessions at all grands prix in 2011, the team has announced.

 

The Australian, a product of Red Bull's driver development system, was already a reserve for both Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso, and dominated the recent Abu Dhabi rookie test for the former team.

 

Ricciardo will replace one of Toro Rosso's race drivers, Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari, in practice at each event, with the two drivers alternating in stepping aside for the 21-year-old.

 

Team boss Franz Tost welcomed Ricciardo's promotion and joked that it would keep Buemi and Alguersuari on their toes.

 

"When our team was created, its stated aim was to bring on young drivers from the Red Bull Junior Programme, so Daniel's appointment as our third driver is an obvious one," he said.

 

"Although Daniel has done some F1 testing already, running on Fridays at the grands prix will give him a valuable insight into the additional pressures of doing it for real during a race weekend.

 

"I am also sure that having a hungry youngster on the books will keep our current driver pairing nice and sharp!"

 

Ricciardo will also contest the Formula Renault 3.5 series again next season. He finished second in the championship at the first attempt this year.

 

"I am really excited at the prospect of driving for Scuderia Toro Rosso in the free practice one sessions at the grands prix next year, so I have to say thanks to Red Bull for this great opportunity," he said.

 

"My main priority for 2011 is to win the Formula Renault 3.5 championship, but my ultimate aim is to be a full-time Formula 1 driver and this new role has to be the best step towards achieving that ambition."

Petrov, molto meglio di tanti altri esordienti "paganti". Heidfeld, che dimostra comunque di saperci fare, e Klien, che mi sembra sia stato l'unico in grado di spremere quel Colabrodo chiamato HRT...

 

Chi non merita? Ho votato solo Senna, ma magari perch? ? stato l'unico che ha pienamente deluso le "aspettative", se cos? possiamo chiamarle, tra gli esordienti. Ad ogni modo, visto che probabilmente correr? anche il prossimo anno, gli auguro di disilludere le mie valutazioni...

Dunque la manovra che faceva Pantano (soprattutto a Monza) non era proprio un "allargare in staccata" diciamo che è una manovra da "ultima spiaggia" che si fa quando non si ha alcun "feeling" con gli assetti della monoposto. Praticamente si cerca di "muovere" l'anteriore e dare così un pelo di sovrasterzo per facilitare l'ingresso in curva e soprattutto per potere accelerare prima. Essendo una manovra limite era ovvio che in punti in cui era necessario sfruttare tutta la pista rischiasse di mettere le ruote sull'erba. Se vai in un kartodromo la vedi spesso.

Per quanto riguarda l'aspetto economico ricordo che Pantano aveva ipotecato anche la villa per pagarsi l'anno in Jordan dopodichè le sue finanze sono rimaste a zero.

 

Un domanda per Giò che vedo conoscere bene alcuni retroscena particolari (mi scuso per il breve OT), in ART tra le tante cose mi sembra di ricordare la "porcata" dei dischi freni cambiati per finta... Risulta anche a te ?

Motoring governing body the FIA has released its first version of the entry list for the 2011 Formula One World Championship. At present only the top four teams plus Sauber and Lotus’ line-ups are revealed in full, with the latter coming before an official announcement for either Jarno Trulli or Heikki Kovalainen.

 

The list, drafted in Paris, not only places Trulli at the squad currently labelled at ‘Team Lotus’ but also shows that Toro Rosso’s drivers are yet to be submitted to the FIA, despite the team having already confirmed Sébastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari earlier this year.

 

The full (provisional) entry list for F1 2011 is as follows:

Trulli and Kovalainen stay with Lotus for 2011

With Formula 1 governing body the FIA having released its first draft of the 2011 entry list on Tuesday afternoon, it has been confirmed that Lotus retains its line-up of Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen, although the eventual name of the Norfolk-based outfit remains to be seen.

 

At present, the squad is entered on the list as ‘Team Lotus’ although this is still subject to a High Court ruling involving the F1 team and sports car manufacturer Group Lotus, which has contested the label and since expressed an interest in the Renault F1 Team ahead of next season.

 

An official announcement on Trulli and Kovalainen is yet to be published although 2011 would mark the 15th F1 season for the Italian, who made his debut with Minardi in 1997 before winning for the first and so far only time with Renault at the 2004 Monaco Grand Prix.

 

Kovalainen, who debuted for Renault in 2007, picked up his sole victory for McLaren in the following year’s Hungarian Grand Prix and this week continues to recover from a heavy crash in Sunday’s Race of Champions which resulted in concussion after a heavy impact with a concrete wall caused by a stuck throttle and suspension failure.

 

Also in 2011, the Hingham squad will be powered by Renault engines – as opposed to Cosworth in 2010 – using Red Bull Technology-designed transmission systems.
