Marcus Ericsson is the New Japanese Formula 3 Champion

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Swedens Marcus Ericsson won the prestigious Japanese Formula 3 championship

today at the Sportsland Sugo track with the perfect end to the series. He

won the final race after a tough fight with his Petronas Team TOMs Toyota

team-mate, Takuto Iguchi.

"This was the dream end to what has been a tough championship," said the

19-year-old. "I cant thank my team, my sponsors, Kenny Brack and Eje Elgh

enough. The support I have had has been incredible and this result is just

amazing. I went into the race today knowing that I had to win to take the

title, and this is what I managed to do," he added.

After race one in Sugo Ericsson was two points behind Iguchi, having come

second and scored a point for fastest lap. However, he had the advantage of

pole for the race he had to win for the title. Ericsson explained the race

and what he had to do: "Unfortunately the start didnt go according to plan,

as Takuto was on the front row beside me and he got the better start and

took the lead. I then had to try to get by, and on this circuit it is almost

impossible as it is tight and narrow. I kept on his gearbox but then made a

mistake and dropped back a couple of seconds. With eight laps to go I was

right on his gearbox again. I knew that a brave move into the first corner

was what was needed. Then on lap 21 I took my chance and surprised him

into that corner. I was on the inside and braked later. He was on the

outside and we were side by side, but then he went wide and spun off. I knew

then the race was mine to win."

This was the fifth win for Ericsson in the 16 round championship.

Final points standings: 1. Marcus Ericsson 112, 2.Takuto Iguchi 103, 3 Yuji

Kunimoto97, 4. Kei Cozzolino 66, 5. Hironobu Yasuda 53, 6. Koki Saga 30.

Sugo, gara 2: Ericsson vince gara e titolo
